2007 Chernobyl Children Life Line Midlands Region Get Together
Crich Tramway Museum 1st August 2007
A wonderful day was had by 119 Belarusian children and their leaders at the Tramway Village, Crich together with around 150 host and support family members. The day was organised by the Pinxton and East Derbyshire Link of the Chernobyl Children Life Line and was the first time such an event has taken place where so many Links with their visiting children have got together in this way. Almost all the Links in and around Derbyshire supported the event, including Pinxton and East Derbyshire, Derby and Burton, Ashbourne and Uttoxeter, Bonsall, Nottingham, North Nottinghamshire and Sheffield. There were also guests from the local Amber Valley Rotary Club, Ripley and Amber Valley Lions and Matlock Derwent Valley Lions, who together with the Tramway Village were all recognised for their contribution towards the successful work of the Chernobyl Children Life Line and were rewarded with the presentation of a certificate and photograph of the children signed by the charities Chairman and Founder Victor Mizzi MBE.
Preceding the presentation of the certificates of thanks the children assembled for photographs of this memorable occasion and collectively sang a Belarusian song which was well accepted by all who were there including visitors to the Tramway Village who were drawn to this wonderful occasion at the front of the old Derby Assembly Rooms. Following the formalities the children and their host families enjoyed all the facilities made available including the museums, old trams, nature trails and of course numerous rides on the old trams which were running constantly throughout the day in the beautiful Derbyshire sunshine.
